Essential Worker is Code for Capitalism’s Sacrificial Lambs

We are still in lockdown in most of America, and we’re still waiting for a real federal aid package to help us citizens not just the 1% and major corporations. The statistics are bleak. Over 33,000,000 Americans have filed for unemployment, I didn’t say they’ll be receiving the benefits, that’s just the number of people that have tried to get through to their local EDD office for days on end, waited on hold for countless hours, and are now sitting back and desperately waiting for a response. Something, anything to let them know that in time of global crisis their basic needs can be met. For the newly, and unexpectedly unemployed, rent is still due, credit card companies are still calling, car payments are still weighing heavy on the minds of so many of us as we continue this societal sleepwalk into uncertainty. There are movements brewing, proven to be a bit of an astroturf campaign in the same vein as the “Tea Party” was in the Obama years. Both movements coalesce on the fear of on uninformed populace with a massive propaganda offensive aimed to convince people to risk life and limb and open up several non “essential” businesses.
